INTRODUCTION

The Asia Baptist Women's Union (ABWU) was formed in 1958 . It is now a sixty year old organization composed of 34 member bodies from 19 member countries. ABWU is one of the seven continental unions of the Women’s Department of the Baptist World Alliance.

During this sixty year period Three sisters from our own Women's Leage were appointed as officials of ABWU. They are Mrs. Resta Wickramasinghe - Secretary ( 1968-1973), Mrs. Indrani Premawardana - Vice President (1993-1998), President (1998 - 2003) and Mrs. Ione Algama - Vice President (2008 - 2013).

VISION

To see women in Asia empowered for leadership, to confidently engage in various traditional and creative ministries, to bring the Gospel to the lost.

TOP PRIORITIES

To promote the observance of Day of Prayer in order to give more support to our mission work.

To get more young women involved in all our work and missions.

To see significant growth in our member bodies through close networking support.

To improve connectivity and to be assessable by all members in this Information technology era.

To ensure the four executives get to visit all member countries in rotation for Day of Prayer during their 5 years tenure.

FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESK

To all beloved Sisters and Brothers in Christ,I feel very humbled and also very concerned that I might not live up to the expectations as the previous committee has done an outstanding work for our Baptist community. The road ahead may be long, narrow and hard for us but with God all things are possible. ( Mathew 19:26)

As this newborn team tries to crawl through their journey, we need all your prayers, guidance and support to achieve the goals set ahead for us. May God’s choicest blessings be upon all the sisters in Asia and around the world to be able to Rise and Shine.
